ST. THOMAS, ON –

Today, the City of St. Thomas was pleased to announce a new pilot partnership with the YMCA that will offer St. Thomas residents access to indoor aquatics programming consisting of aquafit, swimming lessons, and public swims at the YMCA St. Thomas branch.

At the announcement this morning, Mayor Joe Preston, alongside CEO of YMCA of Southwestern Ontario, Andrew Lockie, shared the news about this exciting pilot that will provide the community with valuable and affordable water safety programs and offers services to teach interested persons swimming skills, while encouraging health and wellness through excellent family-friendly exercise opportunities.

“I want to thank our local YMCA team for their commitment to serving the community and for their support of this partnership with St. Thomas. City Council and staff remain committed to meeting the recreation needs of our community and are delighted to expand our aquatics programming to offer year-round and affordable opportunities for residents and families to enjoy,” said Mayor Joe Preston.

“We are thrilled to announce that our pool is now accessible to all residents of St. Thomas, thanks to our incredible partnership with the municipality," said Andrew Lockie, CEO of YMCA of Southwestern Ontario. "By opening our doors to the community, we not only fulfill the need for indoor swimming facilities but also contribute to fostering health and wellness for people of all ages. This initiative reflects our commitment to igniting potential in everyone and promoting a healthier and more active lifestyle throughout the year."

Aquatics passes will begin being offered on Monday April 22nd, 2024 and will be available for purchase only at the Family YMCA of St. Thomas-Elgin (20 High St, St Thomas, ON N5R 5V2).
