City Clerk Maria Konefal Announces Upcoming Retirement

The City of St. Thomas today announced that long-serving City Clerk Maria Konefal will be retiring on May 1, 2026, after 38 years of dedicated service to the community.

“Maria has been an integral part of our City’s administration for close to four decades,” said Mayor Joe Preston “Her professionalism, institutional knowledge, and unwavering commitment to public service have left a lasting impact on St. Thomas. On behalf of Council and the community, I want to sincerely thank Maria for her exceptional service and wish her all the best in her well-earned retirement.”

The City will begin the recruitment process to fill the position of City Clerk on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

In her final months with the City, Konefal is encouraging residents to participate in the upcoming municipal election:

“I’ve always believed in the power of civic engagement,” she said. “I hope everyone takes the time to vote this year. Our community is stronger when every voice is heard.”

Konefal‘s tenure has spanned decades of growth and change in St. Thomas, and her leadership has guided the City through countless elections, Council transitions, and administrative milestones. She leaves behind a legacy of passion for public service,  meticulous attention to detail, and a genuine commitment to engaging and supporting the citizens of St. Thomas.
