Help Grow St. Thomas’ Miyawaki Mini Forest

The City of St. Thomas is expanding the Miyawaki Mini Forest at Parish Park, and the community is invited to help with this year’s planting.

On Thursday, October 1, 340 native trees and shrubs will be planted at the site, supplied by Little Otter Tree Farm and funded by Trees for Life Canada. The trees will be planted close together using the Miyawaki method, creating a dense and diverse forest that provides habitat for local wildlife and pollinators.

No registration is required. Community members are welcome to simply show up on October 1 and take part.

What to bring

Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy, closed-toe footwear. Hiking boots are recommended. Gardening gloves will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own. Sunscreen, insect repellent and a reusable water bottle are also recommended.

Whether you have experience gardening or are new to planting, everyone is welcome to help grow this unique community space.
